William Morris produced his Birds pattern in the second half of the 19th century — part of the Arts and Crafts repertoire of textile and wallpaper designs that defined his late career. This pillow shows a close-up detail of the design: two birds facing each other across a central stem, set against a moody teal and navy ground laced with deep green foliage and small gold blossoms.
